Environmental – Quiport

Based on its strategic objectives, Quiport has set short, medium and long-term environmental goals, prioritizing climate and water risk management, biodiversity conservation and the promotion of the circular economy.

The Environmental Management Plan and the Program for the Mitigation and Prevention of Environmental Impacts are the main instruments that Quiport has to guarantee the proper management of the potential environmental impacts derived from its activity and its contribution to the generation of value for society.

Over time, the management carried out by Quiport in environmental matters has strictly complied with current legislation. Hence, it has not been subject to penalties or sanctions in an environmental nature.

Noise monitoring

We monitor the noise generated by the operation of the airport through periodic measurements, in order to preserve the health and well-being of people and the environment.

Monitoring of gaseous emissions and air quality

We monitor the emissions produced by fixed sources of combustion, in addition to air quality, in order to preserve the health and well-being of people and the environment.

Carbon footprint

The Quito Airport received in 2019 the Neutrality Accreditation Certificate in the Carbon Footprint Program granted by the International Airports Council.

Biotic monitoring of the Caraburo plateau

We carry out annual monitoring of flora and fauna (birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles) in compliance with the Environmental Management Plan and authorization by the Zonal Direction 2 - Pichincha of the Ministry of the Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.

Reforestation

Every year we carry out a reforestation day on the airport plateau. Three native species of the dry ecosystem are planted: Carob (Acacia macracantha), Tara (Caesalpinia spiny) and cholán (Tecoma stans).
